
TOURIST ATTRACTONS OF BRONG AHAFO

Brong Ahafo is the great agricultural region of Ghana and is often recognised as our breadbasket, as apart from its extensive forest reserves and cocoa plantations, it has considerable acreages of food crops.

Traditional farming methods are widely practised alongside the modern methods. Eco-tourists will have ample opportunity to exchange ideas with the rather friendly locals. This region has been largely unspoiled by industrial development. Making it the most attractive for the environmentalists all over the world. Agricultural fairs are commonly held and visits to cocoa farms and lumber factories can be arranged by the Ghana Tourist Board.

Kintampo Falls
These beautiful falls are hidden away in the woods close to the Kumasi/Kintampo Highway

Boabeng-Fiema Sanctuary
This forest reserve is home to many families of Colobus and Mona monkeys, which are held sacred by the local people. Visitors can take walks along shaded trains and be rewarded with sightings of many birds flowers and trees
The heritage of Brong Ahafo
The history and culture of Brong Ahafo come alive when one visits the Hani Archaeological site 50km from Wenchi. The Benghos inhabited that area about 1200BC.
Lake Volta
The Volta Lake flows along the eastern edge of Brong Ahafo and a visit to the port of Yeji make a pleasant excursion. Local fishermen land their catch there and boats from Akosombo stop over there as well.

FESTIVALS OF THE BRONG-AHAFO REGION
Apoo Festival
Celebrated by the people of Techiman and Wenchi in March/April depending on the tradtitional calendar. It is intended to clease the people of social evils ad gain the favour of the gods. It is marked by colourful grand durbar of chiefs and peopleof the area
Kwafie Festival
It is a weeklong festival celebrated in November/December by the chiefs and people of Dormaa, Berekum and Nsoatre Traditional Areas. It is a purification ceremony characterised by large bonfires in the courtyards of chiefs and ultimately by a grand durbar of chiefs.
Sasabobirim Festival
It is a week-long celebration in November by the chiefs and people of Awua Domase near Sunyani, in remembrace of their brave chief who joined Yaa Asantewaa to fight the Europeans in the early part of the 20th century.
Fordjour (Yam) Festival
It is celebrated in August-September by the people of Badu in the Wenchi District to ussher in the new yam
